The Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has urged media practitioners across the State to verify their news and dig deeper before they write.
He gave this charge during a media parley with media practitioners in his office on Thursday.
Governor Aiyedatiwa stressed that the role of media in the society cannot be overemphasized.
While commending the role of the media during the crisis in the State some months ago, he also urged them to continue to speak the truth.
He also encouraged them to turn out in large numbers at the State burial of Late Governor Akeredolu.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan promised that the media parley would be a continuous program.
He added that no media organization would be left out in Government's touch and patronage.
Sir Martins Ayoola, the General Manager, Adaba Fm, expressed that media practitioners are there to contribute to the society, urging Governor Aiyedatiwa to maintain an open door policy and listen to everybody.
Mrs Olubunmi Oke, General Manager, Nigeria Television Authority congratulated Governor Aiyedatiwa on his assumption of duty as the Governor of Ondo State and commiserated with him over the demise of Late Governor Akeredolu. She commended all Governor Aiyedatiwa has done within the short time he assumed duty, encouraging him to ensure that the lost glory of Ondo State be restored.
The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for the appointment of Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan as his CPS, media in Ondo State, clamouring for government patronage and appointment of media practitioners. Appreciated the CPS for showing the gov the right people to appoint, assured the gov of the media professionalism.
The media parley had in attendance General Managers, Directors, Chairmen from different media organizations, including the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Prince Leke Adegbite and Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Comrade Tola Gbadamsosi.
