The latest defection by the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, to the Zenith Labour Party is being supported by five governors in the People's Democratic Party, thenewstrack.com can authoritatively report.
The move by Mr. Ajayi was not unconnected with the battle for the 2023 presidential election, as the governors are ready to whittle down the power of Atiku Abubakar.
Mr.Jegede, a close ally of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, came out victorious despite the support given to Mr. Ajayi by the five PDP governors.
The governors failed in their attempt to stop Jegede from winning the primaries.
The five PDP governors were said to be backing Ajayi to run on the platform of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) due to his failure in the primary election .
The governors , it was gathered, were plotting to stop Atiku from producing a governor in the Southwest to use as a leverage for 2023 presidential race.
The failure of Jegede to make Ajayi his running mate has also aggravated the crisis in the party.
The five governors had suggested that the deputy governor's slot should be given to Ajayi, which Jegede turned down.
