More political permutations have continued to play out ahead the October 10 elections as a fallout of the governorship primaries of the major political parties, the All Progressives Congress, APC and the People's Democratic Party, PDP in ondo state
While the APC might have settled for Lucky Aiyedatiwa as running mate to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the choice of the running mate for Eyitayo Jegede has started creating cracks in the PDP fold.
Jegede was reported to have picked Hon Ikegboju Gboluga (a member of the House of Representatives).
However, SUNSHINETRUTH can authoritatively gather that deputy Governor of Ondo state, Agboola Ajayi is set to fly the flag of the Zenith Labour Party, established by former Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko.
Ajayi who has temporarily relocated to Abuja is said to have the backing of about eight governors from the PDP and APC.
The deputy governor who had an impressive showing in the PDP primaries as the first runner up despite joining late has started reaching out to some veteran politicians across party lines.
One of them is Hon. Saka Lawal, a highly cerebral former Special Adviser to Ex-Governor Mimiko on strategy.
Lawal who was the running mate to Olusola Oke in the 2012 elections was also the only aspirant who contested the governorship ticket with Jegede in the 2016 PDP primary election with a remarkable outing.
His pedigree as one of the respected grassroots mobilisers in Akoko might have informed the decision of Ajayi to reach out to him.
The Deputy Governor was said to have also prevailed on two governors to convince Lawal to come work for him since zoning sentiments might not favour Jegede to beat Akeredolu.
In a press statement which was obtained by SUNSHINETRUTH in Akure yesterday, the Media Adviser to the Deputy Governor, Allen Sowore, said, "Without equivocation, let it be known that the Deputy Governor is still a member of PDP. He's committed to the party under whose platform he contested the recent gubernatorial primary election.
Sowore however said, "After the primary election of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) held on 22nd July,2020, where Eyitayo Jegede SAN emerged as the candidate of the party, the Deputy Governor has embarked on wide consultations with critical stakeholders within and outside Ondo State.
"He is also determined to reassure his teeming supporters following the PDP primary election. In a couple of days, Agboola Ajayi will announce his next line of political decision."
The deputy governor appealed to his supporters and the good people of Ondo State to remain steadfast in the collective desire to shake off one-man and clannish government in the state.
Political permutations in the next few days will be interesting.
