Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly are under pressure from Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to rescind the impeachment of ex-Deputy Speaker, Hon. Iroju Ogundeji SUNSHINE HERALD has learnt.

The members were said to have been called to a meeting by the governor after news broke out of the erstwhile deputy speaker's impeachment.

An impeccable source told SUNSHINE HERALD that the governor called the Speaker of the Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun to express his bitterness over the impeachment.

The governor thereafter requested that the legislators come to him for an urgent meeting which was attended by the embattled Iroju.

Our source who was privy to the discussions at the meeting held behind closed doors said Akeredolu directed that the impeachment of Iroju be reversed.

However, the legislators insisted that they could not reverse the impeachment and gave Iroju the option of resignation to give him a soft landing.

Akeredolu immediately left for Omolege Village near Owo, to inspect the Rural Access and Mobility Project, RAMP after the meeting with the lawmakers.

Chairman House Committee on Media, Hon. Fatai Olotu confirmed the meeting of the lawmakers with the governor to SUNSHINE HERALD.

He said, "The governor has tried to reach the House. In fact I am one of the persons who have gone to have a meeting with the governor. We are just leaving the governor's office now.

"As a leader of our party in the state, we let the governor know that we are all for the government, and we will not do anything that will heat up the polity.

"What the governor said is that we are friends, and that we should see better ways to handle the issue that it will not snowball to conflagration."

The members had earlier impeached the deputy speaker over his alleged infighting with the Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun.

Iroju, one of the foot soldiers of Ex-Governor Olusegun Mimiko was elected into the house under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP but soon jumped ship to the All Progressives Congress, APC to realise his ambition of becoming the speaker or deputy speaker.

Calls made to Iroju by SUNSHINE HERALD were not returned, same for a text message.
