Sunday April 1, 2018 was the day former first lady of Ondo State Olufunke Agagu returned to the social scene with a big bang. The Lagos Times gathered that The woman who has been embracing the life of a hermit since the demise of her husband, former governor of Ondo State Olusegun Agagu, has emerged from her anonymous cocoon as she celebrated her 70th birthday in the company of high society.

The well-attended birthday shindig was a grand homage to the time when she was the life and soul of the party. Those who used to turn up for her parties then turned up for this one. Her Ikoyi, Lagos home was full of friends and associates of her husband, as well as her own A-list acquaintances. Everyone was so happy to see Funke having a good time after the crappy hand life has dealt her in recent times.

Not only did Funke lose her husband, the former Minister of Steel, untimely, but the plane carrying his remains also crashed, killing former Ondo commissioner for tourism Deji Falae, son of Olu Falae, Nigeria's foremost undertaker, Yomi Okusanya and his son, and several other people. Since the ill-fated crash, from which her son Feyi miraculously survived, the former first lady of Ondo State had bid adieu to the celebrity circuit and withdrawn to nurse her grief in private.

Time, if it does not erase her loss, has at least lessened it. Funke has come to the realization that life must go on. The founder of Handicapped Education Foundation (HANDEF) has thrown her energy into doing some of the things her late husband could not accomplish before he passed on. She also holds a yearly memorial service in his honour.

These days, The Lagos Times learnt Funke has settled into the role of an elder stateswoman in the Sunshine State, dishing out sound advice on policy issues. She has also become more frequent on the social scene of late, lending colour and a commanding presence to the events she chooses to grace
