Following the incessant attacks by suspected Fulani Herdsmen on lives and farmlands in the South West, the Oodua People Congress (OPC) and Agbekoya Farmers Association have agreed to provide adequate security in the region.
The two groups announced that they would mobilize members against the onslaught of the herdsmen.
In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Agbekoya Farmers Association, Chief Olatunji Bamidele explained that about 1000 members are undergoing training by ex-servicemen who will be deployed to the nooks and crannies in the South West.
"We have established a vigilante group and it will take off with 1000 men any moment from now. We have trained others who will join later. The vigilantes, who will take an oath will be deployed to all the nooks and crannies of Yoruba land.
"Ex-service personnel, who are now our members are handling the training. Agbekoya from inception was established to fight for human rights. We fought for the rights of farmers during the time of the late Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo in the old western region.
"Members of our vigilante group can carry arms, we will get licenses for their guns, in any case, we are not solely depending on ammunition, our forefathers didn't fight with sophisticated weapons, we can fight without modern arms," Bamidele said.
Also, the Ondo State chapter of the Oodua People Congress has vowed to mobilize its members against the suspected herdsmen who are terrorising the people of the state, mostly farmers.
The State coordinator of the group, Mr. Olayemi Egbeola said that the group has started mobilizing members across the state to flush out killers' herdsmen from our farmland.
"We are not afraid of their weapons, let them come with whatever weapon they have. Our people should be assured that we will conquer the marauders and flush them out of the South West".
The call to secure the South West from the herdsmen attack became heightened after another attack and burning of the farm of the Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae in Ilado, Ondo State.
It will be recalled that Chief Olu Falae was earlier kidnapped on his farm on the 21st Sept 2015, on his 77th birthday, he was later released on the 24th of Sept 2015 after the payment of ransom.
