Akeredolu ‘ll restore public schools’ lost glory-Olowolabi

Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Yemi Olowolabi has said that education is on top of the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, administration's plans to transform the state.

Olowolabi stated this at a meeting with the Owa of Idanre in Council in his palace."

According to him: "This government cannot afford to continue to watch the deterioration in our public schools.

"To show our seriousness to the issue of Education, one of our first action in the Executive Council was to fashion out a way to get money for funding our schools. This has been done through UBEC, where we paid over N3 billion to get the double."

In his address, at the meeting, the Education Secretary of Idanre Local Government Area, Chief Victor Alalabiaye itemised Governor Akeredolu's plan to revamp public schools.

"All public primary and secondary schools in Ondo State are to be upgraded in such a way that will make them be at par with schools everywhere.

"The all-embracing development is going to be carried out in phases.

"The plans are to transform all public schools from the urban to the remotest parts of the State.

"In phase one, all of them are going to be attended to by giving them befitting structures, tables and chairs as well as other materials that will make learning conducive and interesting.

Every facility will be provided because our children in every area of the state deserve the best we can offer.

"It does not make sense when our children learn under dilapidated structures without lockers.

"Governor Akeredolu views such as being inhuman.

"You all know that APC as a political party lays emphasis on infrastructural development."

The Education Secretary also used the occasion to highlight other measures meant to revamp public schools.

He also highlighted some of the other measures to be employed to boost the sector.

"Apart from infrastructure, provision of accommodation for teachers by village heads will be encouraged, unauthorised schools are going to be shut down, emphasis will be laid on school debates and quiz competitions under the curricular activities, there is going to be a regular meeting of education stakeholders, football competitions will be a priority, while volunteer tenders will be encouraged in the rural areas.

"Besides introduction of neighbourhood inspectors will be focused upon

"These measures are meant to make teaching and learning interesting for the teachers, pupils and students alike"

Responding, the Owa of Idanre, Oba Frederick Aroloye, thanked the Governor for appointing his subjects into offices with a promise of continuous support and cooperation of Idanre indigenes for the government.

The meeting was attended by APC members and political office holders and appointees from the town.
