ONDO GOVT CONDEMNS ATTACK ON SUNSHINE STARS

Ondo state government has described as an unwarranted aggression, the attack by neighbouring Osun United on Sunshine Stars football Club in the ongoing  AITEO Cup championship.

The state commissioner for Youths Development and Sports, Mr Saka Yusuf Ogunleye at a press briefing in akure said the first leg between both teams was a peaceful encounter that ended up 1-0 against sunshine at the Osun Sports complex in Oshogbo.

The commissioner explained that the second leg of the match played last Saturday at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu ode, Ogun state started peacefully but later degenerated to a brawl which saw several supporters of sunshine stars and match officials injured.

Ogunleye who said he was physically present at the stadium during the attack, alleged that Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola called the Awujale of Ijebu-Ode when those who perpetrated the attack were arrested by the Police.

Two of the victims of the attack, Ayodele Folorunsho and Felix Olowa, who sustained injuries on their heads, recounted that various weapons including hatchet, cutlasses and stones were used on them.

Both men said they were brutally injured and lost personal belongings including mobile phones, shoes and clothes to the attack

The commissioner however assured that the attack would not in any way affect the excellent performance and concentration of the club in future matches.

The match that ended 3 – 1 in favour of sunshine starts got them the semi final ticket in the ongoing AITEO Cup.
