Two Chinese illegal immigrants, Xinhunfun and Jianypeny, who were arrested last week by the Ondo State Joint Task Force on Forestry for operating an illegal wood factory at Akinfosile in Odigbo Local Government Area, have been remanded in prison custody by an Akure Chief Magistrates' Court over failure to meet their bail conditions.
Magistrate Iretiola Dada, who gave the order, adjourned the case till 17th of June this year for further hearing.
Dada had ordered the accused to pay a bail bond of N300,000 each with two sureties each.
The Magistrate also ordered that one of the sureties must be a Grade Level 10 officer in the civil service and that the sureties must produce two passport photographs with three years tax payment and sworn affidavit.
Earlier, the prosecutor had told the court that the accused persons and others at large on the 24th of April conspired in felling 10 Melina trees at Akinfosile, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, adding that they engaged in illegal operation at a closed sawmill.
The offences according to the Prosecutor contravene and are punishable under Sections 44(4) (a) and 44(4) (d) respectively of Ondo State Forestry laws of 2006 as amended.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to all the charges read against them.
