The chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Budget & Research in the House of Representatives and the Labour party Governorship Candidate in Ekiti State, Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) has congratulated Nigerian Workers for the Annual Workers'/May Day celebration which is to be celebrated by all workers and their allies throughout the World on the 1st May.‬

‪While sending a solidarity message to the Nigerian workers at his residence in Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Hon. Bamidele stressed that despite prominent contributions of workers to the growth and development of the country, workers have been part of the marginalised, traumatised and the most neglected in the scheme of things.‬

‪Bamidele posted that workers and their children are the ones at the receiving end of the most of the harsh economic policies of Government all over the world. According to him, in Nigeria for instance, workers, artisans and peasants have had cause to come to bear the brunt of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), the commercialisation of Education, the withdrawal of oil subsidy, the wide scale mismanagement and siphoning of public funds by successive administrations as well as the erosion of Democratic value and ethics by politicians.‬

‪He pointed out that he chose to join the Labour party and contest for the governorship of Ekiti State on the Labour party platform because of his passionate concern for workers, adding that the Labour party is the only party that represents and espouses the interest, yearning and aspirations of the workers.‬

‪He said he is determined to turn around the conditions of workers in Ekiti State if given the mandate to govern the State at the forthcoming June 21, 2014 governorship election.‬

‪Bamidele promised to run an inclusive government that will give a critical placement for workers' input in the administration of the State. He said during his tenure, all outstanding salaries, gratuities, allowances and pensions shall be paid without further delay, more jobs shall be created while several capacity building programmes shall be embarked upon by his administration to train, motivate Ekiti workers and to increase their productivity and commitment to service.‬

‪However, Bamidele urged the workers not to take a back seat or back down in the collective struggle for true democracy, good governance, social justice and sustainable development, adding that workers have the power to determine the kind of leadership they desire for the country even as he hopes that Ekiti workers will exercise this power at the June 21, 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.‬

‪He therefore wished the workers a very memorable and refreshing May Day celebration.
