Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, joined a host of dignitaries on Friday for the service of songs and Christian wake held in memory of the late Tayo Oluwatuyi.
The solemn ceremony, which took place at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Arcade in Akure, formed part of the burial rites for the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
A sombre mood enveloped the gathering as the body of the late statesman arrived at the venue, marking an emotional moment for attendees.
The service commenced with a Bible reading from Ecclesiastes 3:1-11 by the deceased's daughter, Mrs. Jumoke Adeola, a passage reflecting on the transience of life and divine timing.
Delivering an exhortation titled Where Will Christ Find You?, Pastor James Onagwa drew from Matthew 24:35, underscoring the fleeting nature of human existence and the necessity of spiritual preparedness. He urged those present to reflect on their actions and faith, reminding them that death comes without warning.
Governor Aiyedatiwa paid tribute to Oluwatuyi, hailing his distinguished contributions to the political and administrative landscape of Ondo State.
He described him as a selfless leader who devoted his life to public service, championing the interests of diverse groups and playing a pivotal role in the state's development.
Expressing deep sorrow over his passing, the governor noted that Ondo State had lost a seasoned, generous, and diligent statesman whose wealth of experience and calm disposition were invaluable.
"A great leader has gone home," he said.
In his tribute, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (SAN), representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, described Oluwatuyi's demise as a great loss to the Akure community. He acknowledged the deceased's contributions to governance and service, offering words of solace to the bereaved family.
Mrs. Jumoke Adeola, reflecting on her father's legacy, described him as a compassionate man and a cheerful giver who instilled in his children the values of selflessness and generosity.
Similarly, Babafemi Oluwatuyi, the deceased's nephew, recalled a defining moment when his uncle enrolled him for his General Certificate of Education (GCE), an act that changed the trajectory of his life.
"If not for him, I wouldn't be where I am today. His kindness and sacrifices will always remain in my heart," he said.
The final rites for the late Oluwatuyi will take place on Saturday, 8 January 2025, when he will be laid to rest.
The event drew an array of political and government figures, including Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami; Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.
