Health, education will always be prioritised by our administration – Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to priotizing health and education as they are fundamental to sustainable development.

The Governor made this emphasis at the 6th convocation ceremony of University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED) on Friday.

He assured the people of his administration's commitment to continuous delivery of impactful projects that will positively affect the lives of the people and strengthen the economy of the State.

While Congratulating the management of the university on the 6th convocation and 10th anniversary, he noted that the achievements of the university in just a decade have truly transformed the landscape of health professions education in Nigeria.

The Governor congratulated the graduands and awardees, urging them to remember that they are entering at a time when the demand for competent, compassionate and skilled health professionals is at an all-time high.

"The world has increasingly seen the critical role that healthcare professionals and scientists play in society. Each of you as a graduate of this highly rated university represents a potential part of that transformative impact but times have changed and emerging technologies are creating novel opportunities.


" It is my earnest hope that while passing through this institution, you also allowed the institution to pass through you. In every community you serve, every patient you meet and every challenge you face, I urge you to remember the core value of excellence that the university espouses. Be compassionate, be innovative and be committed to a life-long learning. You are our hope for a healthier future and we are counting on you".


The Governor assured the institution and other tertiary institutions across the State of

government's continuous support. "The Ondo State Government under my watch will continue to demonstrate unwavering commitment to excellence in health and education.


"We are committed to the ongoing development of the UNIMED main campus and by the next convocation, you can expect to see improvements in infrastructure that will further enhance the quality of education and research at this university".


Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Fatusin noted that the convocation is a special events celebrate men and women who have been worthy in character and learning to be granted the degree of an institution.


He congratulated the graduands, encouraging them to play their roles in the development of the nation.


The highlight of the event included presentation of staff of instrument to the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Adesinmbo Kiladejo as the Chancellor of UNIMED, ground breaking and foundation laying of the senate building of the institution by the Governor.


The event also featured award of Honorary Degree was presented to the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Adesinmbo Kiladejo (Doctor of Science, Honoria Causa), Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, CON (Doctor of Science, Honoris Causa) and the Sarowe of Ondo kingdom, Chief (Dr.) Isaac Folorunso Akintade (Doctor of Humane Lelles, Honoris Causa).
