The Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Owena Press (The Hope newspaper) Chapel under the Ondo state Council has expressed satisfaction with the Editor-in-chief of the state-owned media organization, Mr Akindele Adubuola, taking over as the Acting Head of the outfit after the recent dissolution of Boards and Parastatals by the state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

Governor Akeredolu during the dissolution of Boards and Parastatals last week asked the Chairmen of all the government agencies to handover to the most Accounting officers/ senior officers in their respective offices.

In compliance with the directive, the immediate past chairman of the Owena Press Limited, publisher of The Hope newspaper, Sir Ademola Adetula, handed over to the Editor, Mr. Akindele Adubuola, and charged him to continue to work for uplifting and development of the media outfit and its workforce pending the appointment of the substantive Head for the media outfit by the governor.

Reacting to the development in a press statement issued on Sunday by the NUJ Chairman, Owena Press Chapel, Comrade Adekola Afolabi and the Treasurer, Comrade Josephine Oguntoyinbo, on behalf of the NUJ members, appreciated Governor Akeredolu's administration, for all its efforts and interest at repositioning the state owned media outfit since assumption of office four years ago.

The Chapel also commended Governor Akeredolu for funding the newspaper and ensure prompt payment of the staff salary despite economic hardship facing the world occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement reads "We are happy that since the Governor Akeredolu-led administration came on board, the welfare of workers and the overall development of the media organization have always been the priority of the government.

"We also commend our members for distinguishing themselves by being diligent and committed to the growth of the organisation."

While assuring the Acting Head of the staff total cooperation to make him succeed in the discharge of his duty, the NUJ leadership equally promised to continue to carry out their assignments and ensure that all government's activities are given the needed coverage and reportage for the overall development of the state.

The union urges Mr Adubuola to deploy his decades of experience in journalism and management to sustain the amazing and virile operations of The Hope newspaper.

The Chapel also expressed appreciation to Governor Akeredolu and his wife, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu for appointing the Union's Chapel Secretary as his Special Assistant on media.
