I don't promote banditry in my community – Jegun of Ile-Oluji

Jegun of Ile-Oluji kingdom in Ile-Oluji/Oke Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Julius Adetimehin, has described the allegation that he is promoting hooliganism and cultism in the community as falsehood and mischievous.

The Civil Liberties Organisation had accused the first class monarch in connivance with the police to raise some boys in the community to perpetrate the acts.

It also alleged that the boys were members of various cult groups and had been terrorising members of the community, particularly members of the Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria who are providing security in the community..

But in a swift reaction, the monarch said the petition was written by one of his subjects to tarnish his image

He said, "The allegation is absolute falsehood. I know the writer of the petition. He is one of my subjects.

"This is not the first time he would be writing petitions against the community. I don't know why he is doing this.", he queried.

The monarch said he is a man of peace that is working for the development of his community

Spokesman of the state police command, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, said the DPO and the area commander were senior police officers who would not connive with the traditional ruler to promote banditry in the community.

He added, "If the petition has been sent, it would have gone to the appropriate quarters in the command and necessary action would have been taken.".

The allegation against the monarch was contained in a petition sent to office of the state Commissioner of Police, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent.

The petition titled, 'Police conspiracy with Ile-Oluji palace to promote sponsored cultists/bandits in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State,' was signed by the state chairman of the CLO, Mr Akingbola Temidayo.
