Thugs suspected to be working for the All Progressive Party (APC) today attacked the gathering of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) members at Shagari Village, Akure, Ondo State.
The tugs numbering about 15 attacked the peace-loving PRP members while holding a ward meeting in preparation for the governorship election beside Ogo Oluwa Nursery and Primary School, at a remote part of Shagari estate in Akure. A motorcycle belonging to Mr. Monday Yekini, an official of the party was damaged in the attack.
Eye witness account has it that the tugs must have mistaken the PRP members for rival political groups with which they have unleashed mayhem at some quarters, within the state over the local government election. Another eye witness report had it that it might have been in connection with the suit filed by the PRP against the planned local government election hurriedly slated for Saturday Aug 22, 2020.
It will be recalled that the PRP, on Thursday 20th August, 2020 filed a suit at the Ondo State High Court, challenging the legality of the conduct of a Local Government Election with a notice the Party described as insufficient or stale.
The governorship Candidate of the party, Mr. Babatunde Alli, who expressed disappointment at the unprovoked attack however appeal to PRP members across the State to maintain their calmness promising that the security operatives will be briefed. In his word, "it is rather disturbing that a party that claims to have control of government machineries will resort to brigandage against a peaceful, people-loving political party like the PRP".
He assured members that Ondo State people will not fail to vote out a wrong government, come October 2020, no matter the intimidation.
