Police arrest 3 women for selling 3 siblings

​The Ondo State Police Command has paraded two women suspected to be child traffickers for selling three siblings in Akure.

The women, Uchena Ezewenke and Nkiru Victoria who were arrested in Asaba, Delta state were paraded before newsmen by Femi Joseph, Public Relations Officer of the state command.

According to Joseph, the two women confessed to their involvement in the crime, while a third suspect, Augustine Anyawu has already been charged to court.

The three children of the same parents, Faith Stephen, 10, Stephen Jude, 4, and Monday Stephen, 2 were taken away by their co-tenant who was simply known as Esther, at Ayeyemi Street in Ile-Oluji.

Victoria, a baby factory operator had sold one of the kids, Monday to the other suspect, Uchena Ezewenke for N900,000.

Ezewenke, a 45-year old teacher who had been without a child since she got married 20 years ago said she bought she child so she could have a share in her husband's inheritance.

"I asked them to verify the source before selling the kid to me and I even consulted my pastor before transacting the business to know if it was a pure business.

"I may lose out if I fail to give birth to a child for my husband because his relatives will drive me away," she said.

According to her, she did not know the child was stolen.

The police image maker also said the police had earlier arrested the third suspect, Augustine Anyawu in Anambra state in possession of the other 2 children, Faith and Stephen.

The suspect who had been charged to court confessed to have sold the third child, Stephen to Nkiru Victoria for N600,000.

Narrating her ordeal, mother of the three children, Mrs. Patience Stephen said she had gone to the farm leaving her four children at home.

According to her, when she came back, she only met the eldest of them, who told her the siblings had gone to a vigil with their co-tenant, Esther.

"The eldest of the children told me they went to night vigil with one of our co-tenant, Esther, who had just spent about six days in our house.

"I looked around all churches in Ondo and Ile Oluji town and could not find them and I was so sad, losing three children at a time.

"We reported at the police station and for about four months we have been looking for them until they found the three of them in different homes in Asaba where they sold them to.

"They have even changed the names of my children to another name but I thank God for answering my prayers. He has been so faithful," she said.

The two suspects will soon be charged to court
