A middle aged man, Saliu Oladayo has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly stabbing to death his girlfriend, Chinyere Francis, 19 after an ensuing fracas at Oshinle quarters in Akure.
A source who spoke with SUNSHINE HERALD said the couple had been having regular fights in the past.
One of such fights, he said was what led the victim's death yesterday, after the suspect allegedly stabbed her on the chest and head.
"We rushed to the scene after we heard her cry in pain, only to meet her in a pool of blood," the source told SUNSHINE HERALD.
Confirming the incident to SUNSHINE HERALD, Ondo Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph said Saliu allegedly murdered the victim for calling him lazy.
"He said his girlfriend always abuse him, and calls him lazy, that he can never make it.
"According to him, her curses were becoming too much for him. And that true to her words, things were getting difficult for him, as he could barely make ends meet.
"He said when she came again yesterday saying the same things, he stabbed her after a fight broke out .
Joseph said men of the command were immediately called to the scene after which the suspect was arrested.
He also said the police is still conducting further investigation to unravel all sorrounding circumstances, adding that the suspect will be charged to court immediately investigations are concluded.
