Poly increases tuition fees for ND 1 and HND 1 students in Ondo

School fees for new students in ND 1 and HND 1 in Ondo state-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo has been increased SUNSHINE HERALD can confirm.

This comes weeks after the school fees of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko was also increased.

According to a payment voucher of one of the new students, a ND 1 student of Mass Communications will pay N98,000.

This confirms the information which had been in circulation on social media over plans by the institution's governing council to increase school fees.

According to the information, ND 1 and HND 1 students in the Faculty of Applied Science will pay N98,500 and N108,500, while their colleagues in the Faculty of Business Studies will pay N98,500 and N101,000

The new fees arrangement also shows that ND 1 students in the Faculty of Engineering will pay N98,500, while those in HND 1 will pay N108,500.

N98,500 and N108,500 was also earmarked respectively for ND 1 and HND 1 students in the Faculty of Social Science.

While reacting to the information on the social media, chairman governing council of the institution, Barrister Banji Alabi did not debunk the plans the increase fees in the institution.

He rather said the institution was fashioning out what the students will pay.

"There are ongoing consultations with the major stakeholders in the school to arrive at a realistic amount payable by the students.

"While the council countenanced the economic challenges of the moment, it is also imperative to develop the school to a 21st century standard that will churn out graduates that can compete with their counterparts in any part of the world," part of the statement signed by Alabi said.

Prior to the increase, the amount payable by ND students was N54,000 for indigenes of Ondo state, and N64,000 for non-indegenes.

HND students paid N74,000 for indigenes while non-indigenes paid N84,000.
