The Ondo State House of Assembly has disassociated itself from the fees hike in the state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, AAUA
Speaking to newsmen in Akure on Monday, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Bamidele Oleyelogun said the management of the institution failed to carry along the lawmakers before announcing the fee increment.
SUNSHINE HERALD recalled that the Assembly had tried intervening in the impasse preceding the announcement of a new few for AAUA last week.
Oleyelogun further announced that the House will take a decision on the institution's fee increase at plenary on Tuesday (tomorrow).
He said the house would not be part of a policy that would bring untold hardship on the people of the state adding that the hike is inconsiderate in view of the current economic situation in the country.
Students of AAUA took to the streets Monday to protest the increase in their tuition fees.
The university announced a new fee structure for students last week.
According to the new structure, students who had paid between N23,000 and N27,000 will now have to pay between N120,000 and N200,000.
