AAUA students at last chicken out, suspend protest as Akeredolu promise amicable solution

Students of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko who have been suspended their there day protest against the hike in their school fees.

Speaking with SUNSHINE HERALD, Kunle Arosoye, Director of Campus Affairs, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS said they decided to suspend their protest after meeting with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu today.

"That is very true. We met with the governor in the presence of the chief of staff, the deputy governor, commissioner of information and the commissioner of police.

"The agreement is that the protest should be suspended for now, until we reach a reasonable and amicable resolve.

"The governor has promised us that we will meet with him latest by the end of this week, that he will be meeting with the governing council tomorrow to hear their own side story. So he has promised to call us.

Arosoye also confirmed that all the students and market women that were earlier arrested have been released.

The information commissioner, Yemi Olowolabi also confirmed the suspension.

In a statement he personally signed, he said the agreed to suspend the strike to allow government to wade in.

"The governor therefore called on the people of the state to remain calm and go about their normal business," part of the statement read.
