N2.8b to be spent on Niger Delta projects across Ondo state in 2018

The Federal  Ministry of Niger Delta will spend a total of N2.83 billion on projects exclusively across Ondo state in 2018.

In the 2018 budget proposal submitted to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari which was seen by SUNSHINE HERALD, the projects range from construction of various roads, lights and water across the state.

Installation of solar-powered street lights in Ode Aye in Okitipupa LGA will cost N41,000,000 while a similar project along the Ore-Ode Aye road will cost N42,500,000.

Road projects in the ministry's budget in Ondo state include the design and construction of the Owo-Ute road which will cost N75,000,000; re-construction and rehabilitation of Okitipupa-Igbokoda road, N210,000,000; construction of Ilutitun-Igbisin Oloto road also in Okitipupa LGA, N230,000,000.

Others are the construction of a bridge at Lukoto-Ode Irele, Irele LGA, N85,000,000; construction of Igbokoda-Zion road, Ilaje LGA, N170,000,000; design and construction of Rulewo Igbekebo – Lekki Igbokoda road, N120,500,000; construction of Ikare Okeagbe-Omuo road Akoko north-west LGA, N120,500,000; construction of Ode-Aye-Igbotako road in Okitipupa LGA, N160,000,000.

N400 million is expected to be spent on the construction of Agadagba-Akotogbo-Iyasan-Ovia river bridge in Irele LGA as constituency project for Okitipupa/Irele federal constituency; N220 million for the construction Owo-Owute road; N75 million for the rehabilitation of Ayeka-Igbodigo-Igodan road in Okitipupa LGA and another N80.5 million for the design/construction of footbridges at Mahin lagoon, Odun Oloja, Igbekebo and Ogogoro in Ilaje LGA, and other selected riverine communities of Ese-Odo LGA.

Other road projects in the ministry's budget are design/construction of 1km road linking MNDA (Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs) housing scheme at Igbekebo, Ese-Odo LGA which will cost N105 million; rehabilitation of 3km Iloro-Ilale-Ijegunma street, Owo for N110 million and construction of 30km Gbogbologho Akotogbo road in Irele LGA which will cost N260.5 million.

Asides road project, the ministry will also oversee the following projects: sand filling of Ukparam New City, opposite Bolowohu, Ese-Odo LGA, N63 million; construction of water project also in Ukparam, N59.5 million; construction of solar borehole at Aye, Ajue, Idoani, Kiribo and Erinje costing N40.5 million; renovation of dilapidated primary and secondary schools in Ode-Aye, Ode-Irele, N29.75 million and youth and women empowerment/training in agriculture skills development in Ondo state, N27.5 million.

Asides the projects exclusive to Ondo state, the ministry also has other projects which will cover all the nine Niger Delta state.

Such projects include: provision of 33KVA transformers in the Niger Delta states of Abia, Akwaibom, Bayelsa, Crossriver, Delta, Edo,Ondo and Rivers state, N400 million; establishment of an integrated oil-palm processing plant in each state of the Niger Delta region, N120,252,835; establishment of Agro-processing plants in the Niger Delta states of Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ondo, Imo, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom, N152.5 million; rehabilitation and reclamation of ecosysytems in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross river, Delta, Edo, Imo and Ondo state, N81,381,700; shoreline protection and land reclamation Okitipupa at Ibeno LGA, Okoroette / Okoro Mbokho / Okoroitti, eastern Obolo LGA, Akwa Ibom state.

Others projects include: Anyama, Ogbia LGA, Isanpou, Ekeremo LGA, Bayelsa state; Calabar river shoreline phase 1, Calabar, Itigidi river bank protection, Abi, LGA Cross river; Ijaghala (Warri south/West LGA, Bomadi waterfront, Bomadi LGA, Delta state; Awoye Westward phase 1, Seluwa Westward, Abereke westward, Ondo state; Obuama, Dgeme LGA, Rivers state and other existing studied sites in 9 Niger Delta state, N70,252,240; equipping of schools in the nine states of the Niger Delta, N250 million; construction of one block of six classrooms each in Abia , Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo, N400 million; construction of Skills Acquisition Centres with resident supervision and furnishing/equipping in nine states of the Niger Delta region, N700.5 million; health centres in Abia , Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa,Cross-Rivers, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo & Rivers states, N350 million and capacity building and empowerment in Agriculture and other value chain in Abia state, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa,Cross-River,Delta,Edo,Imo,Ondo and River state, N214 million.
