The Ondo State House of Assembly on Tuesday formally resumed with a promise to continue to make laws that would improve the lives of the people of the state.
The lawmakers had on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at a plenary sitting proceeded on six weeks recess and adjourned plenary till Tuesday September 26, 2017.
Although there was no sitting yesterday when The Hope visited the hallowed chamber, some lawmakers including the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ogundeji Iroju were in their respective offices.
Speaking with The Hope, Iroju who appreciated God for bringing them back safely after the six weeks recess, also expressed the readiness of all the legislators to continue with their constitutional roles and responsibilities to further move the state forward.
He recalled that two weeks to the recess, the hallowed chamber succeeded in passing seven bills into laws, saying that now that the House has resumed, all the pending bills would be given accelerated hearing and speedy passage to fasttrack development in the Sunshine State.
Iroju, however, added that the House could not sit yesterday because some lawmakers including the Speaker, Rt.Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun were still in Abuja waiting to receive a copy of the proposed amendment the Constitution from the National Assembly.
He asserted that full legislative business will resume in the House as soon as the lawmakers are back from their respective legislative functions outside the state.
The Deputy Speaker emphasised that now that the government ministries have Commissioners as heads, the lawmakers would also embark on oversight functions to the ministries as part of their responsibilities.
He affirmed that the lawmakers are resolute in performing their functions and also supporting the executive with a view to taking the state to the next level of greatness.
Other lawmakers at the Assembly complex yesterday included Hon. Akinyele Fasogbon; Hon. Tuyi Akintimehin; Hon. Felemu Bankole and Hon. Obadiah Vincent among few others.
Earlier on Sunday, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, in a telephone conversation confirmed that the Assembly would officially resume on Tuesday after the six weeks recess.
He was, however, quick to add that some lawmakers will still be attending different seminars in different places on the day the House is expected to reconvene, and as such full legislative business will not start immediately.
According to him, some lawmakers will be in Abuja attending seminar from September 26 to 29, while others will also be attending another seminar in Imo state between September 27 and 29.
