Members of The Niger Delta Christian Leaders Forum, NDCLF in conjunction with the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN were locked outside yesterday and forced to pray under the sun for the National Prayer Summit at The International Events Centre, in Akure the state capital.
According to the state chairman of NDCLF, during an interview with SUNSHINE HERALD, Rev Dr. Obakolujo Samuel stated that despite the actions carried out by the Ondo state government, their mission to gather for prayer had been achieved.
"God wants us to come here and pray. It is according to God's plan. Prayer can be done anywhere whether it's inside or outside. Thank God it's an open prayer."
When probed further about fellow compatriots who had expressed displeasure about being kept out despite the initial arrangements to make use of the event centre, Obakolujo debunked diplomatically in his press statement.
"We are not locked out. It is the will of God. It is what God wants us to do that we do.
I don't believe someone locked me out, since the federal government project have already overtake the something (sic), we as Christians, we believe we can pray anywhere."
The program, which is tagged "2017 Prayer Summit for Nigeria" was centered on praying for the administrative and leadership system of the country and the meeting had in attendance, Christians from the nine states of the Niger Delta region.
Another participant, pastor Emiloju Joshua told SUNSHINE HERALD that the action taken by the government under governor Rotimi Akeredolu's administration, to stop them from using the center was inappropriate.
"Many of us have come from a far distance. I wasn't expecting this when I came.
The building was booked for N500,000 but the organisers could only account for N40,000 naira."
He however suspected foul play on the part of the organisers.
However, the prayer meeting was done in line with the seven days Niger Delta meeting which ended on Thursday, the 14th of September, 2017.
Bishop Eddy Bebor who stood in for the NDCLF, President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor told journalists that the essence of the gathering was to intercede for Nigeria especially the recent upheaval in the Niger Delta region.
"Prayer is the only solution to the problem facing our country and by offering more supplications to God, there would be progress and unity will also reign."
It was however learnt from the bishop that the venue had been booked for a government-related program which gave them no access to use.
