Wife of  Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has taken her sensitization campaign against breast cancer to the popular Oja-Oba market in Akure as part of the activities marking Akeredolu's 100 days in office.

The First Lady with other Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign (BRECAN) members first paid a courtesy visit to the  Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi where she solicited for his support in the campaign against breast cancer across the state.

"Members of the breast cancer awareness campaign thought it fit to identify with  the first 100 days in office of Mr Governor and as a way of reminding His Excellency, the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of his earlier promise to provide a  Cancer Treatment Centre in the state because we no longer want any woman in the state to die of breast cancer which is why we choose market place where we have majority of women.

" We are not only educating them on breast cancer alone, we are also going to embark on cleaning exercise in the market because cleanliness is next to Godliness ".

In his response, the Deji of Akure who described breast cancer as number one killer disease prevalent among women commended the efforts of  the first lady for pioneering Breast Cancer Awareness with vigorous interest in the state which he said will help to save lives even as he recalled that he had lost some of his close friends to breast cancer scourge.

"I  want to thank Mr Governor for supporting breast cancer programme which is helping in creating much awareness among women across the state."

The First Lady later proceeded to the market where she educated women on the need to check their breasts every month especially after their monthly menstrual cycle and report any unusual change  to the hospital for proper treatment.

Her words," we came to bring to your door step breast cancer awareness campaign and to let you know that breast cancer is not a death sentence if detected and reported early.

"We also came to clean the market because things need to be done newly.

She  later demonstrated to the market women the need to maintain a clean environment as she swept the market with other BRECAN members which lasted for three hours.

While appreciating the First Lady for educating market women on the need to pay attention to their breasts, the Iya-Loja of Akure South, Mrs Ajefunmilayo Adekanye urged women against the superstitious belief that breast cancer is an attack which she said had prevented most victims from seeking immediate medical solutions.

She further explained to the market women how to examine their breasts by checking from their armpit using the three middle fingers to  feel their breasts for any unusual change and report if there is any to the hospital.
