Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana has accused the Buhari-led APC government of insincerity pertaining to talks about restructuring.
Falana was reacting to a statement credited to Information Minister, Lai Mohammed that restructuring was not a priority for the administration.
He spoke at the public lecture organised by the Ondo state government to mark the 24th year anniversary of the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential election.
Sunshine Herald reported that the event was held at the International Event Center, The Dome, in Akure, the state capital.
Mr. Falana said: "Last week Alhaji Lai Mohammed said restructuring is not in the program of President Buhari. Let me refer Alhaji Mohammed and the government of President Buhari to the manifesto of the APC, the first paragraph of that manifesto.
"The APC manifesto says, the government will "initiate action to amend our Constitution with a view to devolving powers, duties and responsibilities to states and local governments in order to entrench true Federalism and the Federal spirit." That is page one, paragraph one of APC manifesto. Therefore, Mr Governor, your party cannot go back on the commitment to restructure Nigeria."
Speaking further on restructuring, the human right lawyer berated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on his current support for the restructuring of Nigeria.
He also warned that Nigerians should be wary of the antics of Atiku Abubakar over his new stand on the country's restructuring after his eight years as vice president.
"Please don't be deceived, Alhaji (Atiku) Abubakar and (ex) President (Olusegun) Obasanjo were in power for eight years, they let the status quo to remain. The question of restructuring was not one of the basis of their quarrel.
"Political restructuring without economic restructuring is not a panacea to our problem.
"President Obasanjo and Alhaji Atiku restructured the economy of Nigeria, they sold our common patrimony, our national assets, they sold them through privatization. One of the industries in the South West, Osogbo Oil Mill was sold to Alhaji Dangote.
"Dangote only went there to remove the assets, that company no longer exists, and many of our industries in the South West were sold like that.
"Please governor (Akeredolu) I beg you, tell your party, Nigeria will be restructured whether APC likes it or not."
In his lecture, human rights activist and lawyer, Jiti Ogunye noted that Nigeria is still in retrogression 24 years after the "criminal annulment of June 12 1993 Presidential election."
"True we are late, but if we rally ourselves to the task that has to be performed, we will certainly catch up with or surpass others with whom we started the journey of statehood at the same time," Ogunye said.
Other highlights of the occasion was the renaming of the Democracy Park in Akure to MKO Abiola Democracy Park by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN.
Also present at the lecture which was chaired by the National President of Afenifere Renewal Group, ARG were other notable June 12 activists: Malachi Ugwumadu, President of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights, CDHR; Bello Aideboje among others.
