FUTA gets new Vice Chancellor

The governing council of the Federal University of Technology Akure has appointed Professor Joseph Adeola Fuwape as its new substantive Vice Chancellor. 

Rising from its inaugural sitting on Thursday, May 18, 2017, the council appointed the Professor of Forestry to take over from current VC, Biyi Daramola when his tenure expires. 

Fuwape was the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Salem University in Kogi state. 

The council in the same vein reinstated Daramola who was earlier suspended by the Education Minister, Adamu Adamu. 

Fuwape holds a B.Sc. Forestry, 1979, M.Sc. Wood Products Engineering in 1982 and Ph.D in Wood Products Engineering, 1984, all gotten from the  University of Ibadan. 

The new Vice Chancellor also had his Post-Doctoral research in Wood composite system at the  University of North Wales. Bangor between 1991 and 1992, and was a visiting research scientist at the Department of Plant Science, Institute of Tropical Forestry. University of Oxford, UK March 1992.

He started his career as a  university lecturer at the Department of Agricultural Engineering, University of Ibadan in 1982 before moving to the Federal University of Technology Akure in 1984 as Lecturer II. 

He rose to the rank of a Professor on October 1st 1996. 

While at FUTA, Prof. Fuwape has served as Head of Forestry and Wood Technology Department for 8 years, Dean School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology for 4 years and member of the University Governing Council for 8 years. 

He also served as the pioneer Director of Quality Assurance Unit, FUTA from 2010 to 2012.

He was born in Ile-Ife present day Osun state November 1957, and is married to Ibiyinka Agboola Fuwape, a Professor of Physics who is also the Vice Chancellor of Michael and Cecelia Ibru University in Delta state.
