The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC through its Ondo state sector commander, Mr Vincent Jack has implored residents of Ondo state to assist the corps in ensuring safety by always doing what is right while on the road, in order to reduce death and mortality rate in the state.
He made this plea yesterday at the Federal Road Safety Corps RS 11.2 Ondo sector command's second quarter retreat for the year 2017 held at Exclusive hall, Akure, with the theme "Towards Sustaining 2017 Strategic Goals: A height that must be attained."
The retreat was graced by the presence of top echelon of FRSC in Ondo State, Special Marshals and other stakeholders including the speaker Ondo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Bamidele David Oleyelogun represented by Hon. Dr. Kazeem Suleiman a special marshal from Akoko South West local Government, Representative of Ondo state Ministry of Health Dr. Obado Ola Obado, the commissioner of police represented by his assistant, representatives of Road Transport workers, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Commandant Adeyinka Ayinla, Nigeria Fire Service and other rescue agencies.
A three man medical committee headed by Dr. Gbala Michael as the Chief Medical Director, CMD Dr. Ojodu Bamidele and Dr. Akintade Adeola conducted the technical session of the retreat which started immediately after the preliminary session by taking all the rescue agencies present at the retreat through the topic "First Aids/Casualty Handling in Post-Crash Care: The role of rescue operations" in a practical illustration of the check, feel and listen techniques of assisting victims of road crashes.
Mr. Femi Adedotun, the road commander marshal said the practical illustrations of the technical session was conducted to ensure that officers know modern techniques of rescue activities, what it takes to handle casualties and saving life on the road.
The sector commander hence thereafter asked the general public to always consider it necessary to call the FRSC national emergency number, 122 for any road crash, so that the closest patrol team to the scene of crash can be located to rescue those who are still alive and recover those who are dead.
He also warned road transporters and other road users to desist from getting drunk while driving, over speeding, overloading, overtaking and obey other traffic rules because bad driving increases the tendency of road crash which increases mortality rate.
