Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) has disclosed that his administration is determined to upgrade the facilities at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko to make it more habitable for corps members coming to serve in the state.
Arakunrin Akeredolu said the state government is embarking on a massive rehabilitation of the infrastructure on the camp to make it a befitting edifice.
According to the governor, government will be reconstructing the perimeter fence round the whole camp while new hostels will be built and old ones renovated.
The Governor has expressed displeasure over the state of facilities at the camp describing it as grossly poor and not benefitting the status of the state as an oil producing one.
The governor made this known through the Secretary to the State Government, Honourable Ifedayo Abegunde during an inspection tour of facilities on camp.
Meanwhile, the state governor has assured the corps members that the right atmosphere to develop this country has come and they should not allow it to elude them.
Governor Akeredolu whose address was read by the Secretary to the State Government who represented him at the occasion charged the corps members to use their coming together to learn about the ideals and diverse culture of Nigeria and make new friends, get a better understanding of the country and devote time to reflect their plans for both the service and post service years life.
He also assured them of the peace loving and accommodating life of the good people of Ondo State as well as government's determination to make their stay in the Sunshine State a memorable and interesting one.
Governor Akeredolu also charged them to live up to the schemes objective of fostering national unity, love, harmony and productive integration across the country.
In his address at the occasion, the Acting Chairman of NYSC Governing Board in Ondo State, Pastor Emmanuel Adelayi assured the new corps members that the state government is giving a top priority to their welfare and safety.
Pastor Adelayi also assured them that the Governing Board will ensure that they are posted to areas where their services will be most needed.
He however implored them to make humility, discipline and commitment their watchwords.
On his own, the state coordinator of the scheme, Mr Sunday Robert Aroni while requesting for the assistance of the state government in the renovation of the camp to bring it to a standard level also called on local governments in the state to make their presence felt in the camp by erecting structures which will be named after them.
Highlights of the ceremony included a cultural display by the Onimole group of Ikare.
Justice Sunday Olorundahunsi of the High Court, Ikare Akoko administered the oath on the corps members on behalf of the state Acting Chief Judge.
Over 1700 corps members, participated in the Swearing -in-ceremony.
