The Oluyani of Iyani in Akoko Northwest Local Government area of Ondo State, Oba Joel Daodu was on Tuesday released by his abductors four days after he was kidnapped along Owo/Ikare road.
The traditional ruler, according to family sources was released after the payment of ransom to the suspected gunmen who abducted him on his way to Akure, the State capital after attending a social function in Oba Akoko in Akoko Southwest Local government area of the state.
Sources in the family said the family paid N2million ransom before the monarch was released late on Tuesday.
The monarch, who lives in Akure, was kidnapped on Saturday when he was coming back to the state capital after attending a social function.
Since he was abducted, the abductors had demanded for N15million. They later slashed the ransom to be paid for the release of the monarch to N3 million.
But a source close to the family told New Telegraph that the abductors, who called a family member asked the family to make the money available on Tuesday by 9;00 am
However, the abductors, who on Saturday asked the family to make available N15 million for the release of the monarch, did not disclose the place where the money should be dropped.
The traditional ruler was dropped at Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area of the state after staying four days in the captivity.
Confirming the release, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr Femi Joseph said the monarch has been released but declined further details.
He said the monarch was with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Oba Akoko Police Division.
Meanwhile, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has congratulated the Oniyani of Iyani-Akoko, Oba Joel Sunday Daodu, on his safe return home, following his release by some kidnappers.
