Activities at the office of the Ondo State Governor were on Wednesday paralyzed as members of the Ondo State Timber and Trade Organization, OTTO, stormed the governor's office to protest against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's ban on forest reserve activities in the State.
Entrance to the Governor's office was barricaded when SUNSHINE HERALD visited the area. Some of protesters also barricaded the entire road that leads to the Alagbaka office as they chanted several songs to express the hardship they had been subjected to due to the Governor's action.
They urged the State government to lift the embargo as its closure has brought untold hardship to the members who have no other means of livelihood.
Addressing the protesters, the State Deputy Governor, Mr. Agboola Ajayi said the government action to ban all logging activities in the state was not made to cause hardship for the people but rather to allow the new government in the state to take stocks and inventories.
Speaking in yoruba, he said, "the ban on logging activities was imposed by the government. We have equally frozen government accounts, but it's not targeted at you, we simply want to know where we are taking off.
"I can assure you, Mr Governor will look into your request."
