Ondo Assembly Crisis: Police forestall breakdown of law and order

The police in Ondo State on Tuesday stopped the attempt by warring members of the Ondo State Assembly to forcefully occupy the assembly.

The state house of assembly has been facing a leadership crisis since some members supposedly impeached the speaker, Jumoke Akindele and was replaced with Malachi Coker. In January, a clash between the two factions led to the closure of the Ondo House of Assembly as former governor Olusegun Mimiko could not resolve the crisis before he left office.

According to the Vanguard, before yesterday's incident, there were signs that the two factions had withdrawn a suit filed at the Ondo State high court in Akure challenging the sack of Jumoke Akindele.
It is therefore not yet known how much longer the Ondo State Assembly will remain at loggerheads which may to a large extent hinder smooth governance as the governor may be unable to make decisive appointments which need the assembly's approval.‎
