ODHA update: Malachi ‘officially’ becomes Acting Speaker

Mr. Malachi Coker representing Ilaje Constituency II in the Ondo State House of Assembly has been appointed as the Acting Speaker.

Coker's appointment is coming up following the resignation of the embattled Speaker, Ms. Jumoke Akindele on Monday in Akure.

Others who resigned with her were the Deputy Speaker, Fatai Olotu and Majority Leader, Ifedayo Akinsoyinu, Deputy Majority Leader, Obadiah Vincent, Chief Whip, Kemisola Adesanya and Assistant parliamentary Secretary, Towase Kuti.

The letter of resignation of these principal officers was addressed to the House Clerk and officially sent to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu this morning.

The legislators at the plenary session at the Assembly Complex also appointed Arowele Samuel from Owo l Constituency, as the Deputy Speaker, Olamide George, representing Akure North Constituency as the Majority Leader and Mukaila Musa as the Minority Leader.

SUNSHINE HERALD recalled the State House Assembly has for the past weeks been engulfed in leadership crisis following the suspension of Ms. Akindele, and others over an alleged N15 million fraud by half of the 26 members of the Assembly.
