The outgoing governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko on Wednesday revealed he disobeyed his late father by venturing into politics.
Mimiko made this known at the public presentation of his biography; "Mimiko's Odyssey, A Biography of Revelation" at the International Event Centre, Akure. The biography was written by a former Director of Research at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPPS, Prof Olu Obafemi.
The governor said though his father loved politics but the political violence of 1983 in the South West made his father warn them against joining politics at the time.
He said; "If there was anyone who was infected by the political virus in our house, it was my father.
"He loved politics, he followed politics and the defining feature in our house is that he woke up every 5 a.m. and listened to the BBC, the VOA and render all the stories even when we were kids. So he loved politics.
"But after the 1983 mayhem, my father developed hatred for politicians; this is because we grew up with the background of violence in politics.
"If he were alive today, he would have been proud of what we have been able to achieve today.
"He taught us early in life the virtues of caring for others; he taught us that there are greater virtues in life than money."
The chairman of the occasion, Prof Oladipo Akinkugbe said the governor still has a major role to play in the nation's politics and commended his doggedness and distinct qualities which he observed are missing in many politicians.
Other dignitaries who attended the occasion include Zamfara State Governor and the Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum, Abulazzez Yari, Adamawa State Governor, Umar Jubrilla, former Kaduna State governor, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Lagos State governor's representative, Kehinde Bamigbetan, Evangelist Bamidele Olumilua and Chief Bode George and former Anambra State governor, Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, former Osun State deputy governor, Iyiola Omisore.
