A lawmaker, representing Akure North/South Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Hon. Afe Olowookere, has faulted the administration of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko's policy on education ,saying the administration failed to deliver in the area of education in the state.

Olowookere said, the government rather than guiding her educational policy by the UNESCO recommendations which includes making education accessible and affordable for every child of school age , the government wasted billions of petrol dollar money on building of MEGA primary schools and shuttle buses.

The APC lawmaker who spoke at the foundation laying ceremony of two schools building projects in Akure North and south federal constituency, noted that the Mega schools as designed amounted to an elephant project that will constitute a drain pipe on government revenue.

According to Olowookere, in the last eight years of Mimiko administration, teachers were not recruited to replace those that retired, resigned, died or relocated to other states.

He said, it was a misplaced priority for the government to be transporting promptly daily pupils and students to schools where there no teachers on ground to teach the students brought by shuttle buses.

His words : "If the money wasted on the MEGA primary schools in Akure for example was used to establish and build simple, attractive structures in different new locations that are within trekable distance to the homes and neighborhood of pupils and students, there would be no need for shuttle buses. I hope the incoming government on Ondo state will study the situation very well and adopt a more pragmatic policy on education.

"We have done this as a demonstration of a paradigm shift in democratic representation and governance at the micro level. A demonstration of our understanding of participatory governance in which people come first and remain the master that enjoy the right to be given or to demand account of stewardship of their representative in government.

"It behooves on the people the need to understand their all important position and responsibilities in the whole political system to enforce good representation and good governance. "

Speaking at the occasion, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi said," education is very important to the growth of any society, and for these projects you brought to Akure, we're proud to be identified with you. Unlike other who used their position to fight their passive political adversaries, but you're using your position to develop people and your constituency. May God continue to bless and protect you. Akure appreciate you."

Also, the Deputy Governor elect, Hon. Agboola Ajayi assured the community the incoming administration will give the school the necessary attention when completed.

He said, "People outside like a politician who can share and dole out money, forgetting that the money shared with them will expired, but the projects we are laying the foundation will endure for next generation to see.

"I was there once in the National Assembly, I know how some of our unscrupulous legislatures used their constituency project through MDG to defraud their people, but we're here to encourage you to do more. I want to ensure the good people Mr.Rotimi Akeredolu government will bring back the lost glory of Ondo state."
