The leadership of the All Progressives Congress is worried by the large number of governorship aspirants on the platform of the party in Ondo State, Saturday PUNCHhas learnt.

The fear, it was learnt, is that should all the 23 aspirants approach the August 27 governorship primary of the party, there may be discord afterwards.

The Ondo State Governorship Screening Committee of the APC, led by Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, had concluded the screening of the aspirants on Thursday night.

The committee, which was inaugurated together with the Appeal Committee, led by a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Agunwa Anaekwe, was saddled with the responsibility of testing the eligibility of the aspirants for the November 26 poll in the state.

A member of the committee, who spoke to our correspondent on Friday on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak for the panel, said the aspirants were advised to step down for each other in the interest of the party.

The source said, "The screening exercise went well. It was a parade of galaxy of stars, minus one, two or three persons. The majority of them are eminently qualified to be the governor of the state.

"There was no disqualification; nobody was disqualified. The only thing is that we are worried about the number. It is too large; both the serious and the not-so-serious, let them come together because if we don't play our cards very well, we will fall into the hands of the Peoples Democratic Party. That is what they are waiting for.''
