Ondo state Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, said his administration will continue to prioritize the welfare of members of the Nigerian legion in the state.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, made this declaration in Akure on Friday while disbursing loans worth five million Naira to the wives of fallen heroes at the 2016 Armed Forces Remembrance Day. He said the Mimiko-led Government since assumption, has disbursed over 22 million Naira as loans to wives of soldiers who died in active service to ameliorate their sufferings.
According to him "Despite the current economic hardship being experienced in Nigeria, our government will not relent in its quest to always put smiles on the faces of widows and the good people of Ondo state.
"The pivotal role played by the fallen heroes in defending the territorial integrity of the nation cannot be overemphasized hence the need to support the legionaries,their dependents as well as those who are still alive" Oluboyo said
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Women's Affairs and Social Development, Olasinmi Odunmbaku, said various empowerment programmes have been put in place by the present administration to empower the legion as she seeks the cooperation of well-meaning Nigerians for the families of fallen heroes.
Speaking on behalf of the widows, Taiwo Agoi, thanked the State Government for always standing by them whenever the need arises.
