The Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Mr Kayode Akinmade, in a statement in Akure on Sunday, said the water project involved the construction of two million gallons per day raw water intake and treatment facilities.
Akinmade said the water project was important to the people of the riverine communities of Ilaje as it would put a stop to the residents travelling long distance to get water to drink.
Giving details of the project, Akinmade explained that the contract awarded few months ago was in two parts – including the pipe laying and water main section located at Aboto.
He said the pipe laying aspect of the project would cover 45.6km, saying 10km of the pipe laying had been completed by the contractors.
"The water project will take a new dimension. It involves the construction of two million gallons per day raw water intake and treatment facilities and laying of 45.6km water rising main along the Igbokoda-Ugbonla Road," the commissioner stated.
Akinmade said Mimiko was also expected to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation and overlay work on the 33.48km Igbokoda-Ugbonla Road.
