A group, Akure Progressive Group (APG) has warned Akure sons and daughters not to antagonize their kinsmen in the name of politics.
The group particularly condemned the action of a former lawmaker, Ifedayo Abegunde for sponsoring hate messages against Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial district, Chief Tayo Alasoadura.
In a statement signed by the chairman and the secretary of the group, Samson Faniyi and Isaac Ojo, respectively, they said Abegunde was fanning the ember of animosity and violence in Akure Kingdom.
They said it was immoral for Abegunde to attempt to rubbish the image of a senior politician and a man of the people.
"Our attention has been drawn to several hate messages sponsored by a former lawmaker who represented Akure North and South federal constituency in the national assembly but was later sacked from office, Mr. Ifedayo Abegunde against Senator Tayo Alasoadura who is currently enjoying the mandate of the Central Senatorial district people at the Senate.
"We are amazed at the level of enemity of Mr. Abegunde against Senator Alasoadura who had worked for the progress of Akure for so long.
"We, APG cannot fold our arms and watch Mr. Abegunde and his foot soldier, Saka Yusuf – Ogunleye to tarnish the reputation of a man who always brings development to his town.
"The several hate campaigns and message sponsored by Mr. Abegunde against Senator Alasoadura is nothing but a resultant effect of a big blow of total loss and irrelevance he's presently facing within the state chapter of the All Progressive congress", the statement read.
The group said Abegunde had no right to criticize any Akure indegene in political office, saying during his time at the National Assembly he refused to touch the lives of Akure people or do something tangible.
The group explained further that "when Abegunde got his first mandate on the Platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) he refused to appreciate his people and empower them, instead, he joined the Labour Party where he got another mandate.
"It is on record that his people at Iwalewa in hospital road, Akure called a meeting after Mr. Abena joined the then Action congress of Nigeria, and disowned him totally.
"Abena has always been an unserious man who jumps from one spot to another without giving consideration to the welfare of his people.
"All Mr. Abegunde cares about is the 'cool money' he had amassed".
The group, however, warned the APC not to give Abena any political position either at the federal or state should the party win the next governorship election.
"Abena is not adding to the political weight of APC in Akure as he has no structure or follower who can boost the image of the party.
"We promise to mobilize and work against any party that gives deputy governorship ticket to Mr. Abegunde because such would do Akure no good.
"We have known Abena as a man of no reputation, who spent all our resources meant for constituency project on women and affluent life style.
"Senator Alasoadura is well known; he was the commissioner of finance in this state and many youths and people of Akure still recount how he touched their lives", the statement added.
