The National Association of Akure Students [NAAS], an umbrella body of over fifteen thousand students in various tertiary institution in the country, committed in putting an end to social instability, economic stagnation, political misery, assaults on individual right/freedom, destruction of institutions, misappropriation of resources, misplacement of priorities induced by the government, strongly condemn and expresses dissatisfaction over the non-payment of their bursary allowance of the year 2013 and 2014 which has long been overdue and has not been paid ever since 2013.

In a Press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Association, Comrade Orimoloye Ifeoluwa on Monday, 12th of January, 2015 and issued to the General public and security personnels, lamented the deprivation and sufferings through a non-responsive treatment being meted by the leadership of Akure South Local Government Area, Ondo state to them. They however condemned the action of non-payment of bursary which serves as aids and assistance to various students of Akure origin in tertiary institutions nationwide particularly the indigents, when all well-meaning Nigerians are joining hands together to re-invent governance, engender freedom and democratic ethos, create jobs, eradicate poverty, build infrastructures and to restore the lost glories of Nigeria but the leadership of the Local Government resorted to suffer the life of students.

The association stated thus in the one-page press statement "The National Association of Akure Students have thus far exhibited maturity by maintaining a high level of understanding with the local government which can be said to be synonymous to our peace loving attributes"

The leadership of the students' Association which has been more committed to the fight of oppression and sufferings of Nigerian students however gave the ranks and file of the Local Government Area the ultimatum of Wednesday, 14th day of January, 2015 to pay the bursary allowance, if not a major obstruction will be taken as an action in pursuance of the fulfilments of their entitlements and promised to turn the Local Government secretariat to the four-walls of the institutions until the Local Government deem it fit to disburse the bursary to various students in the country.

The executives of the association have earlier before pacified their members nationwide, which helped avert a protest that would have ensued weeks ago, when the students of the Akure in their entirety began clamoring for the payment of their bursary allowance.

The statement informing the public about the impeding protest states "the over 15,000 students of Akure origin nationwide have resolved thus, and are getting prepared for the protest, except something urgent is being done about the payment of our bursary allowance"‎
