Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State who is also the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general election, has challenged candidates of other political parties in the election to a public debate
Governor Ahmed, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Communications Strategy, Alhaji Abdulraheem Adedoyin, at the luncheon and presentation of a compendium tagged "Prosperity Assurance" in honour of the governor by the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Ilorin, said he was ready for any public debate to assess candidates at the election.
The governor also said that such platform would enable each flag-bearers to present their scorecards to the electorate ahead of the poll.
Governor Ahmed, who enjoined co-contestants to be conversant of issue-based campaign rather than campaign of calumny that could impugn the image of those seeking elective offices, also tasked journalists to conduct themselves within the confine of professional ethics while writing on election issues.
This, he said, would avert likely tension that usually accompanies a contest.
He praised the state council of NUJ for benchmarking his administration through the compendium and pledged to deliver more on electioneering promises.
Speaking in the same tune, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Prince Tunji Moronfoye, urged journalists in the state to be objective in their reportage of issues in the state.
Moronfoye, who was represented by the State Director of Information Services, Mr Solomon Odeyemi, called for unity of purpose in the activities of the NUJ and commended Abiodun Abdulkareem-led union for engendering professionalism among members.
In his speech, the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem, urged members of the union to always abide by the code of conduct of the union.
