This came as the Lagos State Police Command said it shot one of the assassins in the leg while he was trying to escape after they received a distressed call from one of the occupants of the house, who hid under the flower within the compound while the fierce-looking gunmen stormed the former deputy governor's residence.
The assassins, who stormed the residence of the PDP flagbearer around 2a.m., were said to have tied up all security guards in the compound and headed straight to his room but were disappointed as Omisore could not be found in the room.
They were alleged to have cut off all the communication gadgets and security network in the residence and later searched for Omisore who was in Osun State busy with his political campaign activities.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on the development, the Director of Publicity and Media Strategy, Diran Odeyemi, confirmed the attack and said it was one of Omisore's cooks in the house who phoned the PDP gubernatorial candidate who was in Ife at the time of the incident and gave him comprehensive information on the attack.
The Director of Media and Publicity to Omisore also confirmed that the assassins arrived his house in Lagos at 2a.m, overpowered all the five guards on duty, tied them up and ransacked the whole house looking for Omisore.
He said: "It was through divine intervention and the fact that his party members prevailed on him not to travel to Lagos that night if not only God knows what could have happened by now."
Odeyemi added: "It was because members of the party had prevailed which saved Omisore, he would have spent the night in the house."
He equally noted that the assassins gained access to the house as they came with guns, brandishing the guns and calling those in the house to come out.
He pointed out that "when they got to the house, they were shouting on top of their voices, asking the guards on duty where Senator Omisore was. Where is Omisore, Where is Omisore and when they got to his bedroom, everything was turned upside down. Bring out Omisore before we kill you," they shouted.
Odeyemi however noted that "we want to call on the Inspector General of Police to call the state Governor of Osun, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola to order as his utterances since he started his campaign in the state have been very violent and barbaric."
His words: "Aregbesola should be called to order by the security agencies and mostly the Inspector General of Police. The governor's call on his supporters to go to the polling booth with charms, ammunition and African ammunitions is a call to chaos and anarchy."
Speaking further on the assassination, Odeyemi contended that the party has absolute confidence in Lagos State police to expose those behind the act.
He said Omisore had received several threat messages since he declared his interest for the number one position in Osun State, adding that Aregbesola's violent stance would not deter the former governor
