The Ondo State Police Commissioner Isaac Eke on Monday has sought the support of the Media to fight against crime in the state.

He is also worried by the lynching of innocent people under the pretext of being suspected as kidnappers, warning the people of the state to desist from jungle justice or face the wrath of the law.

The Commissioner of Police for the Ondo State Command, Mr. Isaac Eke, gave the warning at a stakeholders' forum in Akure, the state capital saying any person caught taking the law into his hands would be charged with murder.

The commissioner said the meeting became imperative in view of recent happenings in various parts of the state where mentally challenged persons were killed through mob action.

Eke, who was flanked by other officers of the command said nobody has the right to kill another human being, saying every human being has the right to life including the mentally challenged.

He said there was no report of kidnapping in the state until the recent happenings in Oyo and Osun States.
The commissioner said the situation became more worrisome with the attack of policemen who were trying to rescue some lunatics that were suspected to be kidnappers.

Eke noted that members of the public have the right to arrest suspicious persons and hand them over to the police but not to engage in the punishment of such persons.

While reacting to the allegation that police had not been treating reported cases well, Eke said anybody who is not satisfied with a particular case should report to the highest echelon of the police.

"Nobody has the right to kill anybody. There are due processes to be followed. If anybody kills another person, the punishment, if found guilty is death.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the transport unions, artisans, market unions, media, youth associations and student unions.
