FCT Police Debunks Rumors Of Bomb Blast In Kurudu

The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has dispelled rumors of a bomb blast in Kurudu, a suburb of Abuja.

Residents of the area had reported hearing a huge explosion Thursday morning, which shook houses and other structures in the area. The development sent residents scampering for safety following the two separate bombing incidents in Nyanya, another Abuja suburb, which is just few kilometres away from Kurudu.

Debunking rumors of a fresh bomb attack in the nation's capital, the FCT police command's spokesperson, DSP Altine Daniel, in a telephone interview with a private radio station, Cool FM, monitored by our correspondent in Abuja, said the loud sound of explosion heard by residents was caused by rocks blasted by an unnamed foreign construction firm undertaking road projects in the area.

"There's nothing like a bomb blast", she said, adding that "[it was] one foreign company that was blasting rocks".

The FCT police image maker berated the construction company for not informing relevant authorities of their intention to conduct blasting of rocks in the area "so that we can alert the public".

According to her, the blasting took place behind the Army Post-Housing Scheme, Kurudu.

The FCT police PRO, however, urged residents to go about their lawful duties with high security consciousness.
