He said this In Ile-Ife, Osun State, at the weekend, after receiving an award alongside his wife, Olukemi, in recognition of their enormous contributions to youths and students' development. They bagged the award of 'The Person of the Year' and 'OAU Alumni of the Year' respectively.
The governor and his wife bagged the awards at the Nigeria Outstanding Students Choice Awards of Recognition, organised by the Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.
Receiving the award on behalf of the governor and his wife, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Affairs, Mr Muyiwa Asagunla, affirmed that the state would continue to uphold the interest of the youths and students in its programmes, adding that his administration had been able to bridge the gap between government and student organisations.
Mimiko, who was the former Speaker of the Students' Representative Council, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, reiterated his commitment to providing infrastructure, sustainable living environment for its citizenry to enhance their quality of life. He stressed that the administration's commitment to youth and students development would bring comfort and balanced distribution of resources to every segment of the state.
He further reiterated the commitment of the government to the implementation of various innovative programmes that would continue to serve as benchmark for Africa, noting that his programmes had greatly motivated and spurred the students to present him and his wife with the awards.
Governor Mimiko maintained that the Labour Party would continue to wax stronger in the South-West, stating that very soon, it would be the only opposition party to be reckoned with in the federation.
Giving reason for their nomination, the president, Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Mr Ojekunle Aderemi, described Governor Mimiko and his wife as God-given persons, who had made giant strides in different areas, such as education, youth, agriculture, health, among others.
In his view, a youth leader, Mr Micheal Olarewaju, explained that the achievements of the governor had really fetched him the award, adding that the Caring Heart Agenda of the governor beat the expectation of the people.
Corroborating his view, the president of the National Association of Ondo State Students, Obafemi Awolowo University, Mr Fagbemigun Adewunmi, explained that the award was an appreciation of the good works of the governor which other states were now emulating.
He stated that the governor had good administrative skills and, therefore, enjoined him to do more.
