Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, today, signed into law 2014 budget of One Hundred and Sixty-Eight Billion Naira (N168, 000, 000, 000.00).
The Appropriation Law for the year is broken into Seventy-one Billion, Nine Hundred and Forty-Three Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N71, 943, 200, 000.00) only for recurrent expenditure and Ninety-Six Billion, Fifty Six Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N96, 056, 800, 000.00) only for the capital expenditure.
Signing the 2014 Appropriation Law in the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor's Office, Governor Mimiko said the budget was geared towards the sustenance of all the laudable programmes of this administration and made to enable his government to move closer to its collective dream and aspiration as a state.
According to the Governor, the main thrust of the budget estimate was the continuous sustenance of all the programmes his government had already put in place. Mimiko informed that his government would be using the two pronged approach to substantially expand the economic base of the state "through continuous involvement in infrastructure like road network, Independent Power Plant, Industrial Park and increased expenditure in the Agriculture Value Chain like Cocoa Revolution and Agro-Business Cities Programmes.
"The other leg is to continue in the provision of social assets that will protect the most vulnerable of our society, by ensuring adequate social safety nets in the polity through programmes like the Abiye Safe Motherhood project including Mother and Child Hospitals, Mega Primary Schools, Trauma and Kidney Care Centres,etc.
