-      To benefit from World Bank's N27b health fund

Ondo state has again been described as the best performing state in terms of health care delivery in Nigeria which the World Health Organization (WHO) now uses as a model for Nigeria.

This revelation came to the fore at the official handing over ceremony of about Twenty-Seven Billion Naira (N27billion) credit to the Federal Government to facilitate the attainment of health equipment in the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs.

The credit, which was jointly granted by World Bank, United Kingdom Department for International Development and the Government Of Norway, would be given to Ondo, Adamawa and Nasarawa states as pilot for Nigeria State Health Investment Project (NSHIP), an initiative expected to boost health financing, programming and administration across the states of the federation.

Speaking at the inauguration of NSHIP in Abuja, the World Bank Country Representative, Marie-Francoise Marie-Nelly said the project was aimed at increasing coverage of essential health services and to strengthen the health system through multiple result-based approaches.

In his speech at the event, the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, stated that the project will run for five years and expected to benefit nine-point-four-million people in the pilot states.
