Mimiko seeks IFAD’s partnership with Ondo

GOVERNOR Olusegun Mimiko has solicited further partnership with Ondo State by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in massive engagement of youth in modern agriculture.

Mimiko made the request at the weekend while receiving the president of IFAD, Dr. Kanayo Nwanze, at the Government House, Akure, even as he affirmed his administration's decision to establish Agriculture Villages in the three senatorial districts of the state with modern equipment and conducive accommodation to make farming attractive and profitable.

He solicited the technical know-how and support of IFAD and other relevant organisations with a view to boosting agriculture as a means of poverty alleviation and employment generation.

He added that over 600 community-based projects had been executed by his administration through its 3is initiative with more than 2000 already to oversee them.

Mimiko, who congratulated Nwanze, a Nigerian, on his re-election as president of the world body, said that the country was "blessed with the best brains in the world who should be celebrated by all."

He added: "I want to assure you that we are ready to deepen our partnership with IFAD. We know that you have the contacts. We can leverage on your expertise and contacts to bring about mass engagement of our young ones in agro-farming and micro-processes and all the rest."

Earlier, Nwanze noted that 27 communities in nine local government areas in Ondo State have benefited from IFAD's community-based natural resources programme.

He stressed that another programme had been designed from which Ondo State will also benefit.
