The legislative arm of the National Association of Ondo State Students
(NAOSS) recently gathers to discuss burning issues of importance at
its maiden legislative summit.
The event which has as its theme; Repositioning of Ondo state students
for vibrant and productive unionism was held at the conference hall of
Solton Hotels,Akure.
In an address which aroused the audience, the guest speaker Mr Zadok
Emmanuel highlighted the key role and importance of legislators in
every society and the students' body in particular.
"There is no government without the people, one major responsibility
of any government is to make laws for the people in order for peaceful
co-existence and that is what the legislators do" he noted.
He further posited that "Africa is today less respected in the world
continents because of bad leadership and the wrong mindset filtered
through the age grades"
Zadok, a self-employed entrepreneur wasted no time in analyzing the
Nigerian reality.
Stating that the continent is a blessed one, he bemoaned the inability
of the citizens to tap fully into the available resources and the
creative mind of the younger generation.
Speaking on language barrier, he emphasized that the country has to
take the native languages as more important, "English Language should
not be a requirement for admission into our higher institutions of
learning"
"If the Nigerian students can master the four major subjects of
mathematics, Biology,Chemistry and physics, the country will
experience unprecedented development"
Earlier in his speech, the senate president of the Association,
Aworetan Oluwajuwon maintained that the students' body exists
primarily to serve the interest of the students.
Stating the past achievement of the association which includes
agitation for employment, visitation to chapter and promotion of
cordial relationship with the scholarship board, he seized the
opportunity to appeal for fund towards the execution of various
projects embark upon.
Among the awardees are; Prince Adedire Adeyinka, State Chairman,
Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Ondo
State Branch whole also is the National Vice Chairman, Forum of State
Chairmen and Secretaries of AMLSN in all 36 State including FCT was
awarded Best Union Chairman of the year, Prof. Tolu Odugbemi, Best
Vice-chancellor of the year, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, Best rector of
the year, Mr Oluranti Jasper, Most outstanding principal of the year,
Hon. Jumoke Akindele, Most outstanding lawmaker of the year.
Also awarded are ;Pastor Richard Adeboye ,Best motivational leader of
the year, Hon. Tibetan Ayodeji, youth advocate of the year, Mr Segun
Odusanya, civil servant of the year.
Others are; Hon. Bola Ilori, Senior advocate of the masses, Citizen
Oladele Omogbe, Most outstanding NDDC (Niger-Delta development
commission) commissioner and Barrister Ajose Kudehinbu as member of
the order of Ondo state
