With the current economy and religious crisis that have been rocking
the country in recent times that lead to the released of a statement
by the leader of the well celebrated religious group known as Boko
Haram Sect, saying they are responsible for the series of attacks.
Over recent times students have been seen as neutral in every of these
crises, but with time we students have now been seen as part of the
cause which is judged on religious basis. The crises which are always
unfavorable affect many students in higher Institution of learning in
the region who are not northerner.
It was gathered that with the bombing activities that took place in
Kaduna and Yobe States earlier this week which increased the statistics of
causalities resulted from the Sect group activities in the country to
be more than 50% death recorded in the northern part of the country. A
student of Taraba State University said the insecurity caused by the
activities of this tormenters discourage him a lot which makes him
seek for alternative in school outside the country but their fee seems
too high for him. He said “I don’t want to die in the hands of these
rebels with what I still have to achieve for my country”.
Although as at the time of file in this report students are in their various schools, this situation now leaves a question on the lips of students and their relatives: How
safe are the students in their School. Nigerian
students studying in this part of the country are pleading with the
appropriate sector, States Government and the Federal Government of
Nigeria to look into the Security of citizens in this part of the
country and most especially students. Enough is enough of all
political clashes, communal dispute in all this parts.
This will make me flash our mind back to the post-election crisis and
some communal clashes that rocked the northern part of the country
last year; it was very pathetic for parents, students and staffs in
those schools. Seeing many parents childless after the resources they
have invested in the life of such students, friends been lost and many
others lost resources. Even some schools have to loose sessions or
semesters leading to their academic calendar been slowed down. When
will this stop entirely? Is it until when all students are killed and
their parents starts receiving compensation grants in exchange for
their children’s life in which they have greatly invested? We need an
immediate solution to this challenge; yes I will call it challenge
because it has a solution.
If my reader can just imagine what the Occupy Nigeria protest that
rocked Nigeria during the Fuel subsidy removal in the first two weeks
of the year would have looked like if students were to be in session
in various higher institution in the northern part of the country,
your guess is as good as mine which is; many students would have lost
their lives and many parents losing their so much beloved children and
relatives thrown into mourning. And the very best any Government can
do is to come out saying they want to compensate their families, tell
me will that restore their lives when we all need to proffer a lasting
solution to put it to halt.
Maybe is because our political offices holder’s children are not
schooling in Nigeria or they attend privates school in the country
which they believe the crisis will not affect them? But take a look at
the cry of struggling Nigerians that are striving to make ends meet
even at the face of the current economic hardship in the country
brought by removal of fuel subsidy and are still diligent to see their
ward attain their educational desire.
At this juncture, we want the stakeholders involve with the States
Government and Federal government to see to the end of this menace
that is eating up our country, making it more secured for us the
future leaders as we are called but we all know we are today’s leader
to attain our dream and achieve our goal in making ourselves useful
for the future of this country.
As a person who had witness such crisis before, I’m writing this piece
with a heavy heart that the country’s future is been jeopardize with
all these if our leaders cannot see to the end of this. We know these
set of leaders have failed us and we are not ready to mortgage our
future for some set of tyrants to just make do with our future and
mare our vision and purpose all in the name of them abhorring western
civilization.
Speaking with some students who are schooling and just finished from
schools in the northern part of the country expressed their grievances
on the threat.
Bolarin Dada a student of UNIJOS who said he knows these people are
humans without feelings, who are ready to cause unrest at any point in
time. He further said “He believe no place is safe, which will affect
the state of mind of students and at the end of it all disrupt the
academic calendar of schools affected”
A student of Katsina University believes everything
will be sorted out soon. He advised students to be highly security conscious and be very careful with every of their movement.
A student of UNIMAD who spoke in anonymous wants all students
schooling in the northern part of the country to be vigilant and
prayerful. He moreover went ahead to plead with States Government to
tighten up security in all students environment.
Hope Wilfred who school in Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi
said with the statement many parent will be set to panicking which
might force them to withdraw their ward from schools in the north
which will also affects the students’ academic pursuit and the
resources invested. Federal Governments just have to do something
about it she said.
Adedoyin Dimimu a student of Kano University of Science and Technology
said we hope these crises is not a way for the northern political
parties leaders to take their flesh of pound from the present
administration which they have not always liked and a way to split the
country to their selfish and desired haven.
