A CORRUPTION LEGALIZED GENERATION

“Arise,
O compatriots,
Nigeria’s Call obey
To
serve our fatherland with love and strength and faith
The
labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain
To
serve with heart and might
One
nation bound in freedom Peace and Unity”.
I’m starting this piece
with the county’s first stanza national anthem not just for the singing sake or
the fun of it, but just to remind ourselves and bring back to our subconscious
mind of the we no longer do anything right for this nation to develop. We no serve
our fatherland with love and strength; neither do we serve in faith. Even the
patriotic rhythm of the National Anthem has lost its value. We don’t longer
serve with hearts and might; neither do we experience “peace and unity”. Rather
we experience tribal and religious wars.
Our heads are not seen
as leaders, but rulers they dictate and give orders. They hate conceals; they
detest the truth and hide it in their undines so it decays and stinks like dead
rat. Corruption has become their hobbies. They help to revive peace and unity
in other countries, while their country is falling apart. The corruption we now
experience as started and practiced by the leaders has indirectly been
legalized for every citizen, to worsen the case it is now normal for an average
Nigerian to live below a dollar daily which will not make them afford three
meals a day and there is hardly a family where you won’t find a child with
malnutrition, while the old cargoes who refuse to die or who never gets tired
of staying at the seat of power. They sit tight there in conducive rooms
dictating what happens to the masses. They’ve never experience the hardship.
With the current
corruption practice that lobes every sector of the country cutting across from individual
in a nuclear family into the highest of it which is government of late, led to
a discuss in my house on a Tuesday evening trying to make ourselves comfortable
from the hotness of the weather in the northern part of the country. Someone
raised an issue that took the front page of most national dailies for that the
about a director that had fraud of #4.56billion against him.
We debated at length
and after this I came to a conclusion that corruption had some much eaten into
our subconscious mind in this country that a primary school pupil knows what
the word National Cake is all about,
it had eaten so deep that children now can say that there is nothing in it
seeing their parents embezzling money once they are in a position that can
allow them to do that.
This is killing our
generation and making youths to be money conscious because the generation
before us is into the act and after they had eaten their own share of the cake
they too will be looking for ways in getting their own share, now tell me if a
child with this mentality grows up and become a governor not even going as far
to that let me just say a chairman for a local government. They will definitely
have mismanagement as their blossom friend because the money meant for
execution of project will be diverted into something else to enrich their
pockets.
As am writing this
piece I want to say at this point that it affects me and you and our
environment, using the case I sighted as an example assuming the man were to be
my father how will I feel seeing that my father’s picture was place on national
dallies not that he was given award for noble course done to the boost up our
great country nor received calls from my friends that my father should be a
good exemplar for the youths of the country in the national development but for
a fraud of #4.56billion to mention a few.
It will be a disgrace
to me knowing that my friends will started seeing me as a son of a fraudster,
not only that people which this money was meant for that had labor their life
out in serving our fatherland with love and strength and faith not looking at
the stress but still gave their all and at the end you now harbor and deny them
their right and looking into it properly most of them and their relative will
definitely be praying for you and we all know the kind of prayer that will be,
because many had lost their lives and loved ones in try in to get their pension.
But coming back to
myself now as a citizen of this country, what I believe can be a solution is
for individuals following the call which is the National Anthem I earlier
talked about and furthermore we need to create quest for Social Responsibility
in every of our day to day activities in helping our country as a whole.
When from the nuclear
family we start obeying the laws of being socially responsible now tell me how
children in the house will not have a change in their mentality about what our
leaders are doing out there, it will now be like what we can do for the country
positively and not what the country can do for us. Their generation had failed
us yes everybody that is in his/her right senses knows that, the present
generation should wake up from the slumber and have a change of mentality in
making our country a better place for the next generation coming after us. When
long we’ve gone far from here what will be the testimony of our generation from
the lips of people behind us, will it be what we are experiencing with these
present leaders?

I want to conclude with
a clarion call and a prayer for young people, my own generation which is the
second stanza of the National Anthem:
“O
God of Creation
Direct
our Noble cause
Guide
our leaders’ right
Help
our youths the truth to know.
In
love and honesty to grow,
And
living just and true
Great
lofty heights attain,
To
build a nation where peace and justice shall reign”
